Last summer, I decided that Amelia and I would visit every City of Henderson public park with a playground. Partly to keep things new and interesting for Amelia, but also to see what our city had to offer. I posted the tour on my mom’s group, so most of the time we had at least one friend join us. Overall, I’m very pleased with our city’s recreation department. With the exception of one park, I found them all clean and well-maintained (I read in the newspaper that the one disappointing park will be renovated in the coming months). I’m happy for my tax dollars to go to our parks and recreation department. They provide an excellent bang for our buck, especially when you add in how much we’ve been using the recreation centers in addition to the parks.

I was born in Henderson, and the tour also allowed me to venture into newer parts of the city to which I’d never been. It’s amazing how much it has grown in my lifetime, and in the last decade in particular. Some of the parks I remember playing at in my own childhood, and they are still in great condition – even better with their mature trees and landscaping.

The city has several new parks under construction, and we look forward to visiting them when they open.

The only park we were not able to visit was Silver Springs Park, as it was under construction. We’ll visit in the future I’m sure, as it is a 2 minute walk from my parents’ house (Amelia has actually played there in the past, just not “officially” as part of this park tour, so no picture).

I took a picture of Amelia in front of every park sign to document the tour. Here they are in chronological order.
